School is starting soon -- remember Fedco?

At the end of the summer our parents always took us to Fedco to get school supplies. [I found Fedco in Wikipedia (who knew?).] Fedco pre-dated stores like Target/K-Mart/Costco. We loved going to Fedco! Things were a lot cheaper and it was a fun store. You had to have a Fedco card to get in. And we always saw someone we knew there. Always! So back to my story about buying school supplies...my parents (both former teachers) would take us to Fedco and we could get whatever school supplies we wanted. Seriously! As many Pee Chee folders, pens, and tablets of paper as we wanted (maybe there was a limit of one pencil case per child). I think it was their way of getting us excited about starting school! I kind of miss those days of getting supplies and clothes ready for school and meeting a new teacher and classmates. I don't recall taking many "first day of school" photos (it's all the rage now with the scrapbooking craze) so here is a class photo from elementary school.

I do remember Fedco (the one in Sandy Eggo, though). Funny; I haven't thought about it in years. When I was a kid it seemed HUGE, but I'll bet it was smaller than the Target we've got over near us now.

Yes ! I remember Fedco. My best memory of Fedco is going with my dad to buy my first real stereo there. We packed it in the car and then drove to BYU for my sophomore year. I layed these "live radio broadcast" Springsteen tapes on it that John gave me. When Robes came over, he looked at the tapes and said, "Oh that's where they went." THEY WERE HIS! He wouldn't talke them back. How embarassing.

It should say "played" and "take." Honestly! More embarassed now.

Loved this kindergarten class picture! What a bunch of cuties. Doesn't it make you wonder what happened to all those kids?

I found you! Are you three down 3 over? My back up guess is four down 1 over. And I think the boy who is three down 2 over WENT TO MY SCHOOL! He looks DANG familiar! FEDCO!!! Oh my gosh I loved that store. After I got divorced (in the dead of winter ... which in Calif may not SEEM like a big deal but it was a COLD winter and my new place had NO heater ... I had to build a fire in the fireplace every morning so the kids could dress in front of it! We were sad, cold, and desperate!) I went to Fedco with the last $100 to my name and got EVERYTHING I NEEDED! Blankets! Jackets! Ironing board! Iron! Pitch Fork! FEDco had the BEST prices ever. Man I miss that place. Remember the candy row? And the check out registers that spanned an entire side of the store? ha. And each one had a line back to thar? Yes... thar. It goes with "just over yar." ha

Love the bangs! :-)

My mom always took first day of school photos of us kids. I even have a "before" the first day of kindergarten photo and an "after" shot too (I drew a photo)!!

Pee Chee folders! That takes me back. Jillian's school supplies everything for them, but I still like to buy new supplies every September. Wish I was going back to school
