Oh, Boston, you're my home

My brother asked for my shipping address and the next thing you know I've got two of these sweet Red Sox caps.

Since I only need one I'm going to have a drawing for the other one. Leave a comment about Boston or the Red Sox (nothing rude, please) and I'll pick a name Wednesday night at midnight (eastern time) and the winner gets a cap!

GO SOX!!!

Oh, I love Boston and the Red Sox! Boston is my home and always will be. The Red Sox will always remind me of my grandparents. They loved those Sox! I'm so glad they got to see them win the World Series before they passed on. They were both so excited about it.

I lived directly behind Fenway Park for five years...who else deserves that cap more than me?

I love that dirty water, Boston you're my home too! (See I get that reference Ellen- I'll bet not many people do!)
Seriously, I was actually born downtown so I am a true native,

When I was a kid, the Boston Red Sox farm team was in my hometown of New Britain, CT. I got to see Roger Clemens pitch before he was brought up to the majors.
Sadly, I don't think that I really appreciated the Red Sox until I got older and by then, the farm team was moved to Pawtucket.
But I did get to see the first game of the World Series versus the Mets because my dad had season's tickets at Shea Stadium. I was rooting for the Sox and when they won, my parents told me that I had to be quiet so that we wouldn't get killed by angry Mets fans.

That is my history with baseball. The end. (I don't need to have the hat; I just felt like sharing.)

I LOVE the Red Sox!If you send me the hat I promise to proudly wear to my new high school way out here in California. The hat would bring me closer to home since I was born Just outside Fenway Park. :)

Put me in the drawing, please! Here's my story: I visited (chased! LOL) a great guy for a couple of years who lived some distance from my home in Calif. Each time I'd visit he'd take me on the most fabulous tours and we'd see the most amazing places. Maine, the statue of liberty, Vermont, the cape, Mt. Monadnock, Lexington, Concord, Boston... the light houses! LL Bean! The Mangy Moose! The Joseph Smith Memorial! The porches with the pumpkins on them! The little farms along the roads! THE TREES! THE STARS! He was the best tour guide ever! My heart broke every time I left for home because I knew I'd found where I really wanted to live. The cool tour guide found his eternal comp. (We are happy for him!) I also found my eternal comp. (We are happy for me!) But before I married him we negotiated a few terms. He needed at least one child, and I needed to move to ... Boston! I've loved it since I first saw it. I promised my kids (from first marriage) that I wouldn't move until they all finished high school. Four years to go, Ellen! The hat would help me hold on to my hope that I will actually get to move to Boston some day. Or at least have a vacation home there.
Four years. tick tick tick tick tick . . . . . . .

what to say, but that I miss it. We bought my daughter a pink red sox hat for her birthday and she wears it everywhere. I am so proud to take her to the store with it on... people love it. So, this hat would be a great mommy and me hat.. she could wear her pink one and I my red one. Love it and great idea about the drawing, I will have to do one someday soon. Thanks ellen

Although I do love the Red Sox with all my heart, I have to put in a plug for my brother (http://www.ultimately-us.blogspot.com) here, who almost named his son Fenway. Unfortunately, they decided to go with Owen.

Oh the Red Sox... mmm I grew up watching Yaz, Rico, The Boomer, Fisk, Lynn, Rice (6-4-3), The Rooster, Denny Doyle, and Butch.. I was, up until 2004, one of those long suffering fans who had "1918" yelled at me. I have sat in the RED seat in right field. (That should score me some points with ep), and I know why its RED. My best story from Fenway: During BP before a game, I jumped on to the field (fair territory) and grabbed a ball hit by Rod Carew. (..hey this guy must be old) Fifteen minutes later signed it! They did not throw me out but they did make an announcment to stay off the field. I still have the ball. My niece has a 2004 ring because she was working for the Sox at the time. I have been inside the Green Monstah. I have been inside both dugouts. Good luck to all Sox fans & friends of ep!

I have only been to Boston once. It was wonderful. I have been to Hiannis and Plymouth twice. But I LOVE Red and my maiden name starts with a B. Plus it would be cool to wear to counter my son's Met's cap he got when we were living in NYC this past spring semester.

Ok, I want the hat but after reading Swoopref's comment (how old IS he?), I think he should get it. ;)

When I ran the 2000 Boston Marathon, Kathryn Nixon was one of my teammates. During a training run, she mentioned that she wanted to set me up with one of Trot's teammates (I won't mention his name here).

BUT, I had already met Lein (my husband) by that time. He was also training for the marathon and after miles and miles of running together, I figured out that no man - not even a bad-ass Red Sox player - could hold a candle to my future husband when it came to faith, character, and judgment....

Besides, that Red Sox player had one naaaaasty goatee.

What a great brother you have! I'm moving (Friday) into Boston from the 'burbs and will be part of "The Schools of the FENWAY" I will be so close to Fenway Park and the Sox that our school has to lock its gates at night after a game specifically to keep drunk people from the games out. Plus, I sang the national anthem with our youth group on Mormon night! I love Boston and I love the RED SOX!!

others get the song reference, but does anyone know what esteemed place got its name from that song and the "oh i love that muddy water" line... that's right the MIT bar! dolly doll probably knows that since she works at the 'toot. i'd love a red sox cap. living here in SF away from my home boston (and all my family: parents, 3 siblings and partners and 4 nieces and nephews, boo hoo) i always love something to remind me of the most special place on earth.

Boston will always be part of my home -- in fact, maybe we'll move back next year! We went to a couple of Red Sox games and are still fans. I love Ellen's drawings and I hope I win the hat!

When I was in college, one of my apartment mates was doing an internship for the general manager of the Red Sox. On Valentine's Day that year, a friend and I were making heart-shaped sugar cookies, when my roommate saw the cookies, she said she would pay us to make a giant heart cookie for Lou, the Red Sox general manager. We made the cookie for her free of charge and she went on to be hired by the Red Sox and work for them for over 20 years.

I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)

My big bro was walking around outside Fenway park three years back and got stopped and interviewed by a reporter about whether they should trade Johnny Damon. He got on the news. I was born but not raised in Boston.I hope that the hat goes to the "California cutie" (me) Besides who is more deserving than Sweet Sarah especially when her big sibs have them already!
Go Boston Red Sox
Sweetly,

I have wanted a Red Sox hat for a really long time. So I did a bunch of jobs and earned enough money to buy one. I was excited to finally have it and I wore it all the time. But when I was visiting my family this summer I lost it. I don't have enough money to buy another one yet. So now all I have left is the Yankees hat my Grandma but me in New York. I NEED a RED SOX hat!

Wow, it's amazing how many lurkers come out of the woodwork when you're giving something away, esp something really cool! So, I withdraw my hat want because my boys actually all have one already, except Ben who can't seem to find one to fit his freakishly large head, and I don't wear hats because they make me look like a pinhead. I think you should give it to Katie B. or the jr high kid who lost his hat. And, I also wanted to tell you a funny story. This summer my parents friends were visiting and went downtown to do some sightseeing. They stopped a cop and asked, "How do you get to Fenway?" He replied, "Practice, practice, practice."
Ha Ha,
E

I live very close to Fenway Park now. I think the hat would help me blend it. Plus, this is a *very* cool looking version of the hat.

Although Boston is not my home at the present moment, It will be my home someday soon! I fell in love with Boston when I went out to visit and have been planning my escape ever since. The Red Sox game was for sure a highlight of my trip and I hope to see many more games! Go Sox!

I NEED this! :) I had a cool hat, but it was a smidge too small, so I never wear it...then I finally got one that fits, and nate totally stole it. I went to go buy one for when the red sox were in san diego, and they didn't have any in my size. the hat gods are against me! how's that for a sob story? :) crossing my fingers!

Scott and I used to live two streets from Fenway Park. I always had to leave work early on home games because otherwise I couldn't get any parking. The gas stations around there even sell their tiny lots as parking. They make more money with parking than they do pumping gas! Our friend's car got flipped after one of the World Series games. Ah, fond memories.

I was born an abused Yankee fan in Utah.

As a young kid, I never understood why the owner of the Yankees would trade away my favorite players, but each time it felt like I had been spat on by a dirty old man. It turns out that was the case…

A few decades (and one Sox World Series championship!) later, here I sit proudly sporting my “Believe in Boston” t-shirt, which I alternate with my “Yankee Hater” t-shirt every time the Sox play against the Evil Empire… After the MLB strike in the 90’s, I moved to Boston on the pursuit of a new favorite team. After one inning in yea, even Fenway, I was converted to Red Sox Nation for life.

Wow, what a ride it’s been. Some of my favorite highlights at Fenway include:

- yelling “NOMAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH, GO YAAAAAHHHHHDDDD!” so loud and long at the top of my lungs every time he’d walk up to the plate and do his freakish OCD hand/batting glove/bat/ankle shimmy thing that I’d lose my voice

- sitting amongst a clan of drunk college students heckling Paul O’Neil (former right fielder for the Evil Empire) in right field so hard that they even got him to laugh and nod his cap to them when they yelled at him after a non-chalant one-handed catch, “Hey Paulie, catch with 2 hands! That’s why you’ll never be a role model for the kids!”

and

- getting to take batting practice inside the Green Monstah, hitting 20 balls at home plate, and running the bases that culminated in an abrupt/last second “whoa, I’d better slide…this is the only time in my life I’ll get to do this” slide at home plate.

I was safe.

And the Sox won the World Series the following season.

Any connection?

I don’t know. But Nomah did go yahd the last time I yelled at him to do so.

And the Yankees still suck.
