YW activity: Career Night

We had a fantastic "Career Night" tonight.  I invited 11 women to tell about their careers: veterinarian, dentist, educator, professor, risk officer, attorney, business analyst & humanitarian, public policy researcher, freelance writer and graphic designer, nurse practitioner and music teacher (not in the photo).  The girls were captivated and interested and had some good questions.  #arlingtonwardyoungwomen

TBT: Robes the sportswriter

It was 19 years ago today that my brother Robes was diagnosed with a brain tumor that took his life 18 months later.  He was a gifted sportswriter (and great husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend) and his article "End of the Color Line" is listed in the back of this book under Notable Sports Writing of 1996.  Robes wrote the article for Black History Month and it was published in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, the newspaper he worked for.  It is the story of coach Don Haskins at Texas Western playing the first all-black starting line-up for a college basketball team that won the NCAA national championship in 1966.  The movie Glory Road is based on this true story and is one of my favorite movies.  I'll be watching it tonight in memory of Robes.  #pattonmemories #robespatton #imissmybrothereveryday #iwillmailyouthearticleifyouwanttoreadit

TBT: Robert and I...

...a lot of Easters ago.  #pattonmemories

I had lunch with Jonathan, Hayley and baby James Pierce today.  Jonathan's family moved to Boston for grad school when he was a newborn and his mom is one of my dearest friends.

She would be very old today.  I miss her cooking/baking, letters she wrote me and playing card games with her.  #pattonmemories #andpitchforthmemories

Day trip to Maine

I drove to Maine today to meet Robert, the travel agent I use at work (and he's kindly helped me get lots of flights to Oregon).  We have talked on the phone for about 8 years and have never met until today.  He's so nice and interesting and gave me the grand tour of Saco and Old Orchard Beach.  #EProadtrips2016 #kitchenenvy

My lunch today

One fish taco and half a torta (my first ever but certainly not my last).  #lavictoria

Library books

I went to the library tonight and since they didn't have Cannery Row or To Kill a Mockingbird I went to the "new books" section.  These are all related to NYC and they all look really good.  #lexingtonlibrary #iliketoread #iloveNYC #subwayreading

Still watching...

The Ivie girls enjoyed the museum

Today's outing is in MA

I went to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. They have great exhibit about Eric Carle's life and work, a library with thousands of picture books, an auditorium (we saw a short film adaptation of Miss Rumphius), a really cool art gallery where kids can make things, and a fantastic gift shop!

New season, new photos

I love photographing Emily's amazing apartment.  She's got amazing style.  This season she's done a lot of studying for grad school (see the stack of books?!?).
