Leo Politi

Many many years ago my parents were in downtown Los Angeles and recognized an artist painting a canvas on the sidewalk. They stopped the car, introduced themselves and had a nice visit with him. It was Leo Politi. They bought some of his paintings that we had in our home growing up and I have this one hanging in my entryway. Those are Victorian houses in the Bunker Hill part of Los Angeles.  I remember him visiting our home with some of his paintings.

Leo Politi also wrote and illustrated childrens books. Between the four Patton kids we probably own 15 of his books. He would sign and personalize his books at Robinsons (my favorite downtown department store). Leo Politi even came to our house once. I love his style and am lucky to own some personalized books. Click here to read a really nice bio about him.

Those are FABULOUS inscriptions! One of my favorite things to do with my kids is going to author book signings. I think it gives them a lot of encouragement to write their own books someday! Plus, it's neat to open a book and remember the time you actually met the author. Cool stuff. We'll have to check out some of Leo's books.
