STOP means STOP (doesn't it?)

I've lived in Boston many years but I still get annoyed when people don't respect the STOP sign. Last night I was driving home through a crazy five-way intersection (that I used to live near). Every corner has a STOP sign but one and last night I had the right-of-way (which really means nothing here) and a big truck went through the STOP sign. I didn't cut in front of him (I'm not dumb) but I did honk (I hope I didn't disturb his cell phone conversation). I showed him.

I'm proud of my California heritage and that I learned to drive where people respect the rules of the road and the right-of-way (and invented Road Rage, right?!).

Sounds like the truck just did a California stop... :) Glad you didn't get into an accident!

I'm pretty well acquainted with afore mentioned intersection and I completely agree with you. People seem to use the stop sign as a guideline rather than a rule of the road. They'll go regardless of whether or not it's really their turn. It is so annoying! Keep honking!

I'm also familiar with said intersection, and it took me a long time to realize people coming from that one direction had the right-of-way and no stop sign (I just assumed everyone did). So when I'm going through I try to give them some slack and just assume they are clueless like I was.

I had to hop over here to say that I WISH Boston was an option for us! I just don't think that we could afford it on Larry's salary, but it's one of my favorite cities, and I'm envious of you!

And good luck on your list of 50!

Downing Sq. ....ah, I know it well. Even when I have the right of way, I still slow down because it is too crazy.

Well, I live in California now, and I'm trying no to pick up this state's drivers' horrible habit of the infamous "california stop"..... you know, the roll-through stop?! :)

I can't say I miss driving in Boston. :)

You have not driven in California for a long time. The drivers here are as bad as anywhere else. No rules of the road here, it's all me first. Stay in Boston!

I know what you mean, this intersection gets on my grill daily!...especially because when I enter into it I am usually always coming from mass ave, which we all know means I HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY!

ep, i'm afraid i need to support my fellow boston drivers here--yes, we are aggressive and rules are sometimes optional (as are road signs) but AT LEAST WE KNOW HOW TO DRIVE!!! westerners panic if there are less then three lanes on the road (including a "turning lane"--what is THAT about?), always foul up rotaries (it's not rocket science, folks, there is a yield sign), and parallel parking??? as if!!! i lost some of my edge by living in utah for 5 years, but a few years back in cambridge quickly fixed that.

I totally remember that stop where Park Street meets 4 other streets -all with stop signs. Fun times.
