Hostess gift
I'm going on a road trip tomorrow to visit Neighborly Neighbors and tonight made them some cloth napkins as a hostess gift. I haven't seen them in a year so it will be fun to catch up and see the girls (#4 -- gender unknown -- is due in 6 weeks)!

More(mon) misconceptions
Written by my co-worker:
Two guys and a girl were walking behind me. The girl was talking about how she could make $10/hour at home doing data entry. Guy #1 said, "Well, have you heard about Jet Blue? They've targeted the Mormon community and have Mormon stay-at-home moms answering their phones." Guy #2 said, "I didn't think they used technology." Guy #1: "Yes they do. I think they're just more strict...like they don't drink or smoke." Girl: "It's not that they don't drink. It's just that they don't drink to get drunk."
Please pass the pass along cards.

Burn, baby, burn
I'm not technically a pyromaniac, but last night I threw everything I could get my hands on (plates, cups, wood, paper) in our raging fire. Then we noticed one of the wood stumps had a big nail in it. Then we realized it was part of the bench. Do you think anyone will notice it was tampered with?!

Camp Joseph '08
Vermont. Hiking. S'mores. Fires. A sky filled with stars (amazing!). A dedicated missionary couple running the camp. The pond. The river. Singing 'round the campfire. Marilyn playing her guitar. Telling stories. Going on a bear hunt. Helping each other put up tents. Babies crying in the night. Kids running wild. Resting. Relaxing. Nice bathrooms. Bugs. Bug spray. Sunburns. Sunscreen. Trail mix. Hot dogs. Sharing food. Dutch oven. Frisbee. Whiffle ball. Fun. Friends. Memories. NO rain!
That's camping.

Happy Camper
Olympics memorabilia
I found this box in my crawl space and dragged it upstairs so I could look through it.
I found some metal McDonald's plates, lots of magazines, newspaper articles, an official flag, and a cool banner that I bought back in '84. One night (probably the week before the Olympics started) I saw a news clip about the company that made the banners that were hung all around Los Angeles. I thought it would be cool to get one of the actual banners so I drove to the company/warehouse (in some random part of L.A.) and bought one. I have this recollection that it cost around $50.
I also bought a poster (I distinctly remember it cost $2 and then quite a bit more to frame) which has been hanging in my apartment(s) ever since 1984. I'm proud of my L.A. roots!

A is for Apron
I painted this shelf the color of the trim on my kitchen cupboards and hung my aprons on it. Some are vintage, some I made, one my creative cousin made, and one was a gift from friends. Aprons are all the rage these days, you know. Just ask June Cleaver.

2nd Aunt
I met my cousin's delightful daughter Jamie in December of '06 while we were both visiting New York City. She immediately called me her "2nd aunt". She flew into town this morning and will help her brother Tyler drive home to Denver (he's been working in Boston this summer). We spent the day in Maine. Tyler and Jamie are really cool and we had lots of fun on the abbreviated (no L.L. Bean) Ellen Patton Tour of Maine.
