Wreath Making Party!
It's the week of the Wreath Making Party! My first year in the Boston area the woman in charge of the party asked me to chair the food committee. It seemed like a reasonable request until she said, "Try not to spend a lot of money, it needs to be nice, and we have to have carrot soup." Carrot soup? This carrot top had never had it nor made it. The night of the party I had one of those "ah ha" moments. So this is what all the fuss is about. There is a lot of preparation but it's an amazing party and a great way to start the holiday season. This year I volunteered to be in charge of the whole party. I've done it before and know what needs to be done. I asked my friend (I hope she's still my friend...) Michelle to be my co-chair. We've got good women in charge of all the committees (set-up, clean-up, making bows, decorations, food, registration) so we haven't been stressed out...yet! Tonight I went over with a few friends to decorate the chapel (lights, greenery, wreaths on the windows). It looks really nice. The Belmont Wards are having their party tomorrow night so this is what the gym looks like tonight. Our party starts with hot wassail and registration followed by a program in the chapel. Linda H. orchestrates the program (she has written the program for thirty-something years!) filled with wonderful stories and beautiful music. After the program we all go downstairs to make a wreath out of the boughs that have been purchased from a nursery. Over 200 bows are already made and you can pick which one you want off the display on the wall. When the wreaths are done there are delicious refreshments to enjoy! It's such a wonderful party! There are always lots of women who aren't members of the church in attendance. I have friends that have been in the past and ask when the party is. Everyone loves it!! It's one of New England's best traditions! My cousin is flying in from So. Cal. for the party. And then Friday morning we'll hop on the bus for New York City. Let the holidays begin!!!

...I hope it`s not that little Chinese bus that has a history of rolling over.
Hope it all went great. Enjoy NY, and thanks for stopping by.
I miss the wreath making party. Hope all goes well.
What a great party. I can see that it would take a great deal of organization. I imagine the program is very special as well. I've headed a lot of big events and food committees. I love to take on those kinds of things...just like you. :o) I'm sure all the ladies in attendance will be very appreciative of all of your work and Michelle's too.
OMGOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to do this!!! I wish I was in your ward! What an awesome tradition to have a wreath making party. And carrot soup? Hmm....not so sure about that though. LOL! Is it good? I don't think I've ever had carrot soup. I want to see your finished wreath!!
Oh how I miss the wreath making party !!! I hope you had a great time in NYC, can't wait to see the photos of the tree.
