A promised trip to Maine
My friend Laurel and I have talked for almost 2 years about going on a day trip to Maine. After a few reschedules, we went today, and her mom Kate joined us. Laurel is moving to Utah and Kate is moving to China so they enjoyed seeing the ocean. We drove up to Portland Head Light and then worked our way down through Kennebunkport (Bush compound, fish lunch), Wells, Ogunquit (the library), York Beach (Nubble Light) and a quick stop at the Eddie Bauer Outlet. The weather was beautiful, the company was delightful, and it was an all-around great day!

"Training"
Since I'm doing a 25 mile bike ride in a little over two weeks I decided I needed to dust off my bike (seriously) and do some "training" (yes, those are air quotes). I survived my 30 minute bike ride (it was a beautiful night--no sweater needed) and kept reminding myself that it will probably take me 5x that long to finish 25 miles.
Hack attack
Yesterday a professor and three students brought William Barton Rogers into our office. They laughed about him wanting his office back. Today I taped a MIT NERD PRIDE pocket protector on his cardboard coat. Hack that!
Note: It was kind of creepy having him watching me all day. And he's got bad hair.

it's Pinteresting
Have you heard about Pinterest? I'm hooked (or is it addicted?).
Pinterest is a great way to save things you find on the internet. You can choose your own categories ("boards"). You can "re-pin" pins from other people and you can "follow" people. It's really really really cool.
Click HERE to see my pins.
I'm Ellen and I love Pinterest.

Dentist appt.
I went to the dentist yesterday. I had never met the hygienist so as we were getting acquainted (trying to ask/answer questions while she's cleaning my teeth) we realized we both like reading blogs. We went back and forth about some of our favorite blogs and then I told her that I had a daily blog. I told her about my first post, when I started blogging every day, and how my friend gave me chocolate chips for blogging every day until she took the BAR exam. I told her that next week is my 5th anniversary of being a blogger and that the most comments I've gotten is 50.
And then the hygienist suggested I floss as frequently as I blog.

Little League season has started
I went to my friend Ian's little league game tonight. It was a bit chilly but still fun to cheer for him. He's a good pitcher. He thought they won 23-12 but I think his score is exaggerated a bit. :)

Coconut cupcakes
More Easter photos
Friendship Week gift
When I told the Cullens that I was their secret friend for Spring Friendship Week, I also told them that I'd take some family photos as one of my gifts. They have lived here almost two years and are heading to St. Louis this summer. They asked if I'd take photos on Easter so we did a quick photo shoot at the Temple after church today. Their girls are so nice and so cute and said "cheeeeeeeeese" about a hundred times!

Declined
Tonight on my way home I stopped at Joanns to buy a gift card for my niece's birthday (and some fabric for me). My debit card was declined. Twice (since those had to be separate transactions). I had my checkbook with me so wrote two checks and the transactions took longer than usual (why do they still write all that info on your check? is it 1955?). I felt bad for the people behind me. And I was embarrassed that my card was declined even though I knew it must be a mistake. I darted over to Red Box to see if my card worked there. Declined again. Ugh.
As soon as I got home I called my bank. After a few "I'm sorrys Ms..." (and she didn't get my last name right) and being put on hold a few times I was informed that my card was blocked because of a purchase made in my home state California. The customer service rep claims that they called to tell me about the problem with my card (I don't believe they did--no call on caller ID).
That purchase was made by me. From a company called SimpleHuman. I bought a $9.99 part for my trash can.
