I'm not peeling potatoes

I'm reading "Half Broke Horses" by Jeannette Walls (who wrote "The Glass Castle")--and enjoying it. I read this quote this morning while riding the subway:

...women who didn't marry became old maids, spinsters who slept in the attic, sat in a corner peeling potatoes all day,
and were a burden on their families...

You are the antithesis of this statement. Aren't we as women glad we live in the modern age?!

The roles of women have come a long way baby! I was watching an episode of Archie Bunker a few years ago and I was shocked to learn that Edith was celebrating her 50th birthday in the episode. 50!!!? They made her look like she was an old, frail, frumpy woman. Give me a break. I am glad you are not peeling potatoes.

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. Where did you read that?! Thank goodness for progress!
Have fun apple picking! Wish we could come!

If you peeled potatoes, I would eat them.

Nothing wrong with peeling potatoes, real men and women should roll up their sleeves and help, regardless of marital status. But there obviously is much more to life than that, and you, Miss Red EP, are a daily example to us all -- thanks!
