I went to Kimballs at noon today for my last ice cream cone of the season. [I thought they were closing today but they are actually open until October 14th!] I chose gingersnap molasses (in your memory, Valerie) and it was delicious. I am enjoying a nice rainy Fall holiday; sorry to all of you on the other coast that aren't enjoying Columbus Day today.
i still can't believe bates is owned by kimball's. i have many memories of driving from acton to bates in our old blue station wagon, pulling up to the fence where the cows were, and eating our ice cream cones... it's a treasure! have you been to butterbrook farm? that's cool too!!
Oh, that makes me so jealous! I miss that place. I constantly think I should open up a place like Kimball's where we live, but hubby reminds me I would have to be there everyday and how much work... so for now I just think back to the days that were... Kimballs!
Hi Ellen! I was gone for about ten days, but now I am back and catching up on blogs before I start my chores. That ice cream looks yummy, and I loved the apple photos. I tried a new kind this year at our apple farm ... mutju? mutshu? something. It was really good. Glad you are enjoying fall out there.
Ellen! Gosh you make me miss New England. I'm glad I found your blog. I think of you and your love for graham crackers and chocolate frosting every time I eat a white trash treat. I keep urging Michael to find a surgical conference to attend in Beantown so I can tag along. No luck yet. Alas! Mandy Wilkinson
I was born and raised in Van Nuys, California. I moved to Boston sight-unseen and have loved living in New England since that day when I said, "this apartment is OLD". My hobbies are antiquing, reading books and magazines (bring back Blueprint and Domino please), sewing, quilting, sightseeing, watching movies, and photography. I love the color red and have a retro red refrigerator (and kitchen aid mixer and ice cream maker and toaster and...) to prove it! I live in a converted high school and love decorating my loft condo (w/ 18 foot ceilings) that was formerly the auditorium. I have 3 brothers, 11 nieces and nephews, and a bus fleet of friends.

That was always Kyle's favorite too. He still talks about it. We haven't tried to recreate it, but we should. Yum!
