"My mechanic"
I've been going to these mechanics (Steve and Lou) for years. I heard about six weeks ago that Steve was a hospice patient. I've been meaning to call to schedule my car to be serviced and had been checking to see if there was an obituary for Steve before calling so I wouldn't say anything dumb. I finally called last week and Lou answered and I asked if I could get my car serviced. He said it wasn't a good time; that Steve had passed away that day. Oy! I felt so terrible. I went by the next morning with a card and a hug for Lou. I told him that Steve was probably driving the coolest car around heaven. He told me that Steve hired him 40 years ago. So for him it's a loss of a business partner and dear friend. Steve's funeral was today. I noticed the flowers when I drove by tonight and went back to take a photo. #nophotographicregrets #greypatti #oldcarguys

EP in The City
I had a fun day yesterday. It was a good mix of walking, cabbing, shopping, eating, friends, and enjoying all things New York City.

NYC: it's a wrap
We are heading home (the bus driver took us via New Jersey?!?) after a great day in The City. I love this place. I hope to visit again for a weekend this summer. I have more exploring and eating to do!
Food in NYC
I definitely had better luck with meals this time in NYC than in the past (I always vow I'm not going to eat at a chain and then I'm starving and not near a restaurant I had researched and end up eating somewhere dumb). Lunch at The City Bakery (pizza and mac & cheese) was delicious. I guess "dinner" was that yummy milk chocolate/banana/marshmallow crepe at Crepes on Columbus (recommended by my friend Cristi who lives in NYC). It took forever to get our food and the mystery person got their food way before us but the crepes were worth the wait. Christie posted donut photos on instagram so I had to check Dough. Whoa. Their donuts made by hand were amazing. At the end of the day we made a mad dash for Absolute Bagels and they said they were closed and would have bagels in 15 minutes. I we had waited we would have missed our bus so sadly we left empty handed.
The Strand
I really like visiting The Strand when I'm in New York City. My brother Robes frequented this store when he lived in New York City the summer of his journalism internship. They have 18 miles of books. Go figure.
The City Bakery
I met up with Annie (Dr. Waddoups) for lunch and her friend Christie (whose blog I have followed for years) who is now a friend IRL.

The derm
I always count how many times the dermatologist sprays pre-cancerous spots on my face with liquid nitrogen. Today: 18. #gotlotsoffreesunscreensamples #iamnotagoodsunscreener #obviously #ouch

TBT: 6th birthday
I think this may have been my favorite birthday party (we didn't get a friend party every year). We made hats out of paper plates and our goodie bags were plain brown lunch sacks. #nanpattonwastheoriginalmarthastewart

National Sewing Machine day
I bought this sewing machine with some inheritance money I got in high school. It's been like a good friend; never letting me down. #sewhappy #ilovetosew #iwishicouldseweveryday #iguessicould

TBT: Adrienne ten years ago
I flew Adrienne to Boston to help me move into my condo. She helped me clean and unpack and get settled in. We went out to eat twice and went to one movie (Mad Hot Ballroom) and worked the rest of the time. She was the best helper. The night before she left I heard her in the bathroom say, "No kid has had that much fun in 8 days." #iloveadrie #auntcamp #pattonmemories

Ten years ago today I bought my condo!
Ten years ago today I bought my condo and I have felt lucky to live here every day since! It's amazing space that used to be the auditorium in a school. Photo cred to Shelby Osmond for capturing the uniqueness of my space.
