TBT: siblings
This was taken around the time our youngest brother Charles (aka
"baby Charlie") was born (we were 4, 5, and 6). My mom hired a teenaged
girl from church, Helen Horton, to help out that summer. (We called
her Helen Hortonhead.) Nan told her specifically that she would be
doing cleaning and helping around the house. It was not child care. My
mom wanted to take care of the baby and us but needed an extra set of
hands. One day while vacuuming, Helen's long red hair got tangled up in
the vacuum. My mom's first instinct was to grab scissors! Helen
timidly said, "Sister Patton, will you call my mother?" She did and
Sister Horton (our piano teacher) came over and saved Helen's hair. #pattonmemories
