TBT: Robes the sportswriter

It was 19 years ago today that my brother Robes was diagnosed with a brain tumor that took his life 18 months later.  He was a gifted sportswriter (and great husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend) and his article "End of the Color Line" is listed in the back of this book under Notable Sports Writing of 1996.  Robes wrote the article for Black History Month and it was published in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, the newspaper he worked for.  It is the story of coach Don Haskins at Texas Western playing the first all-black starting line-up for a college basketball team that won the NCAA national championship in 1966.  The movie Glory Road is based on this true story and is one of my favorite movies.  I'll be watching it tonight in memory of Robes.  #pattonmemories #robespatton #imissmybrothereveryday #iwillmailyouthearticleifyouwanttoreadit
